Spring Term message from Miss Grove:

Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas break and are feeling refreshed for the Spring Term in Year 2.

This term, Year 2 have lots of exciting learning to look forward to across the curriculum. In Geography, we will be exploring coastal regions and their features.  In Science, we will be looking at different uses of materials, specifically looking at what makes them suitable for certain purposes.

Reading remains a key focus in Year 2, and we will continue to build confidence, fluency and comprehension through shared texts, guided reading and daily practice. We will also enjoy exploring a range of stories and non-fiction books together.

In Maths, we will be developing our understanding of multiplication and division, whilst building fluency with calculations and continuing to practise number facts regularly. Our English lessons will be based around engaging texts that will inspire the children’s writing and creativity.

You will find our Knowledge Organisers linked below, which outline the key learning for the Spring Term across subjects including Geography, Science, Music, RE and PE.

I’m really looking forward to another positive and productive term of learning together in Year 2!

Thank you for your support,

Miss Grove

A Royal Afternoon

Posted: Jul 14, 2024 by: K Warburton (K.Warburton) on: Year 2 Blog

Year 2 had lots of royalty in their classroom this week! The children all dressed up as Kings and Queens, ready for our visit from our local Historian. He visited Y2 to teach us all about monarchs. The children learned so many facts about King Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II. Did you know, King Henry VIII's favourite sport was jousting? Did you know that when Queen Elizabeth II was coronated, people in London used periscopes to peer over the crowds so they could see the Queen passing by? The children were lucky enough to look at and handle lots of these artefacts made by Mr Worrell, including a periscope, old wooden football boots and a jousting game. What an exciting afternoon we had!
