OUR SCHOOL VISION AND VALUES
During the Summer Term 2023, the school leaders started to refresh and streamline our School's Christian Vision. We met with all the staff, the Govenrors, invited parents and carers and spoke with representatives from the School Council too. We thought about what are the most important things we wanted OUR school to share with OUR pupils, theri families and our community. After many discussions, alterations, refinements we finally decided on our new focus. The BIble Verse and all parts of the assicoated Vision, state what our school is all about, and what we aim to share withour whole community:
Inspiring each other to shine
Let your light shine, so that others may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Matthew 5:16
A nurturing family – All members of our school community are loved, cared for, valued and respected in our happy, enabling environment.
Celebrating individuals – We encourage children to feel pride in their efforts, have confidence in their own abilities and celebrate individual successes in all areas of life.
Learning for life - We promote a love of learning and foster children’s curiosity about the world around them, so that they experience life in all its fullness both now and in the future.
Inspiring excellence – We equip children with a strong foundation of knowledge, skills and attitudes through a carefully planned and engaging curriculum, with a wide range of opportunities both in and out of the classroom.
Working together – Our welcoming, open school culture creates strong relationships with parents and carers, the church and the wider community, enabling all to flourish.
Distinctly Christian – Our Christian values are at the heart of all we do. Jesus reminds us in Matthew’s Gospel that we are lights for the world. We share our light with others!
CHRISTIAN VALUES
As a whole school family, we are proud that our Christina Values are embedded at the heart of all we do. These values underpin all that we do as a school. In addition to the whole school approach of these Values, each class focusses on one value in depth - further exploring and developing their understanding of this across the school year.
Reception- Kindness
Year 1 - Friendship
Year 2- Thankfulness
Year 3 - Honesty
Year 4 - Peace
Year 5 - Respect
Year 6 - Self Control
In addition to these, we also teach and learn about Perseverance and Love, which underpin and unite all experiences of life and learning at St Thomas’.
BRITISH VALUES
At St Thomas’ we help our pupils to flourish academically and also encourage their wider development: spiritually, morally, socially and culturally, so that they are fully prepared for life in British society and for their role as responsible citizens. The promotion of ‘British Values’ is central to our education.
At St Thomas’ Primary we uphold and teach about British Values within the framework of our whole Curriculum. These values are integral to our vision and day to day life at school. They are also reinforced in whole school Worship and through timetabled sessions within our broad and balanced curriculum.
These British Values are defined as:
- Democracy
- Rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
