SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS & DISABLILITES (SEND)
St Thomas' is an inclusive school. We are passionate about enabling all children to achieve their best, make progress, learn and achieve whilst developing a love of learning, and we are proud that equality of opportunity is a reality for all of our children. We recognise each child as unique and our inclusive learning culture and nurturing environment ensures that we set high expectations for all, and continually strive and adapt to ensure that children succeed and enjoy school.
If your child has any additional needs, any difficulties or barriers which may make it more difficult for your child to learn, it may be necessary for us to make adaptations and offer further support for your child in liaison with the class teacher. The adaptations or support offered to each child will differ depending upon their needs, recognising too that these may change from time to time.
If you have any concerns about your child's learning or progress, please contact your child’s class teacher in the first instance. You may then wish to speak to our school SEND Co-ordinator (SENDCO), Mrs Georgia Fishwick, to gather further information and advice. Please call the office to arrange an appointment, or email the school office: office@st-thomas.lancs.sch.uk

Helpful information and links for parents & carers
IAS (Information and Advice Service)
This is an independent service which is available to support parents and carers to increase their involvement in the education of their children with SEND . These people can help if you, or a member of your family has, a Special Educational Need or Disability. They can help you to understand the jargon used, work out the forms you have to fill in, or navigate the meetings you have to attend. It’s often helpful to have a third person to help you remember what you wanted to ask, or to give you confidence to ask about the things you don’t understand.
