Autumn Term message from Miss Warburton:

Welcome to Year 2 after the summer holidays! I hope you all had a lovely summer, spending time with your family and friends after working so hard in Year 1. I am really looking forward to teaching you in my new class - we will be very busy doing lots of new learning during our first term in Year 2.  Our main learning theme will be 'Movers and Shakers' with a focus on History learning. We will be exploring what makes someone historically significant and researching some very important people in history. I wonder if you can think of anyone who has made an impact on our world...

Throughout our Maths learning journey in Year 2, it is essential that we become confident with the times tables. Can you count in 2s, 5s or 10s? We will be working on practising times tables by chanting "One 2 is 2, two 2s are 4, three 2s are 6" and so on... It would be great if you could have a go at home each week on Times Tables Rockstars as this will support you to recall these essential number facts and will give you a head start with our learning too! Our focuses in Maths for this term will be Place Value, Addition and Subtraction and Shape. As a school, we now also have access to Numbots, which can be accessed on any device. Your log in for this is in your reading record. I would love it if you could have a go on this at home.

I have put a link to the Year 1 and Year 2 Common Exception Words below. These are words that most children are expected to be able to spell by the end of Year 2. It is important that we practise spelling these words, as they are commonly spelt incorrectly meaning that we may find them a little bit trickier to remember. How many can you already spell?

Our Autumn Term Learning Letter and knowledge organisers are also linked below. These detail everything we are going to be learning about this term. Please take a look so you know exactly what we will be exploring.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask - I am always happy to help! I can't wait to start our year together.

Practical Partitioning

Posted: Sep 22, 2024 by: year2 teacher (K.Warburton) on: Year 2 Blog

We have been working hard to partition numbers to 100 in Maths using a part-part-whole model. The children have been working independently and in pairs to problem solve and understand place value. We have been using a range of resources from our Maths boxes, such as Base 10, counters and Numicon, to help us partition numbers flexibly. Mega Maths work Year Two!
